These Are a Few of My Favorite Things...(right now)

I have some new dresses to put up in the shop, but I sent one out to get cleaned so I thought I would pass the time by sharing some of my personal current favorite things...for sale and not for sale...vintage and new...

Right now I love Cherry Red and Bright Lime Green, and it all started with this necklace from Betsy Johnson and these Flip Flops.

And now I love this dress from
lavinialou

Right now I love My Daughter Covered In Guitar Hero Stickers By Her Brother (they weren't very sticky and she didn't feel them when I discovered this and peeled them off of her, thankfully--that would have been much less amusing)

Both my hubby and I are only children, so we're not really sure what to expect in the way of sibling bonding. My 2-year-old is in love with guitars (his favorite bands are The Who and The Ramones and he likes his music LOUD) and he was happily "sharing" his favorite stickers with his sister! She didn't seem to mind and was laughing away at him. He was also singing the ABC's to her.

Right now I love Learning to Sew and I started with this flannel and minkee blanket for my son to take to daycare for naptime.

It was fun, but I need to keep practicing on that straight line! I've always wanted to be the type of mom who does a lot of DIY projects for her kids...And now that I have a girl I'm inspired by all of the pretty possibilities. In fact, I just bought some cherry fabric...hmm...

Another thing I love is time which is something I just can't find enough of! How do we juggle all of things we love...people (children, spouses), hobbies (shopping, clothes, DIY, reading) with the things we must do (work). I think I'm lucky in all of these areas, but I have to admit there are days when I'm overwhelmed and I just want more time than I have...

And now I'm getting Cindy Lauper songs stuck in my head, so I'll bid you all goodnight...

Up, Up, and Away...

Up...
It's up! I have some dresses and a sweet vintage handbag up and I have even made my first sale! Yeah! I have a feeling that I sold the dress for less than I could have. But the buyer seems nice and I'm happy the dress is going to a good home. It has always been one of my favorites. Sadly, I was unable to go to A.Z.'s for the modeling session...A swollen mosquito bite on the toddler and a fussy baby made me rush home that night. But as chance would have it, I was talking with my cousin-in-law and she fit into the dresses perfectly!

Up...
I'm going to finish some adult hair accessories this weekend and get them up for sale, too. And maybe some baby bows just for fun ;-) I just find little girls in outrageously big pretty bows and flowers to be meltingly cute. Poor Kathryn Grace! She is in for a lifetime of dress-up! My only hope is that she is a girly girl like her mama (well, girly in that department).

And Away!
I am taking a sewing class and I am very very excited about it. I am taking at http://sewcraftyhouston.com/ . Sew Crafty Houston in the Heights is one of those stores that makes me want to be a better crafter just by how lovely it is. I had to go to the Heights today on unrelated business and I stopped to see where it was located. It reminded me of how much I like that little strip of Houston; it is lined with vintage and antique stores. Sigh. It would have been a lovely afternoon to linger there if I could have.

Do you sew? If so can anyone recommend a good machine for a novice?

It's really going to happen, this Wednesday!

Well, I have finally scheduled the photo shoot of my "model"! The beautiful A.Z. will be modeling for me. We will be shooting on Wednesday so the ETSY store will open by Friday (hopefully...life can get in the way)!

Part of the reason for the delay is that I am finishing up some baby hair bows that were commissioned for a baby shower. Baby hair bows are my new favorite past time at night after the babies are asleep. And I recent
ly had some custom requests according to color schemes.

But hair bows aren't just for babies! A friend and co-worker that is very in to Rockabilly fashion asked me to make her a Betty Page influenced flower, and then I started on little adult hair clips...sigh. I just don't have enough hours in the day for all of the thrift shopping, estate sale shopping, and crafting that I would like to do!

I look forward to getting my store and this blog going, and bringing some beautiful 50's and 60's dresses to you later this week.

A Goodbye and a Hello

All of the dresses I will be selling in my store in the beginning are from my own personal collection...beautiful vintage dresses I have loved but now must say farewell too...

After my second child my body shape has changed and my budget has changed, so I have made the hard decision to say farewell to my old friends.

I am excited to keep searching for vintage pieces for those of you out there who share my passion, though.

And as soon as I catch my breath I will be adding hand made pieces, too!

Love,
